If you look up monotropism in a dictionary, a photo of William Quilliam should appear, as he was the definition of a single-minded, single-trope or single-cause-obsessed individual. There have been books written about Quilliam, including Victorian Muslim, Abdullah Quilliam and Islam in the West and Loyal Enemies: British Converts to Islam 1850–1950, so I will cover him only in brief; his life is a cautionary tale.
Quilliam was an unfortunately named well-educated and intelligent solicitor in England, who was also on the autism spectrum and very much atypical in every discernable way, a genetic contrarian.
He is a man who once owned alligators and monkeys as pets, a man who holidayed in Arab and Muslim lands at a time when 99% of Brits engaged in staycations, and who would go on to earn the title ‘The Sheikh of Muslims in Britain’ by the then Emir of Afghanistan as well as being appointed as Persian vice consul in Liverpool by the shah.
He is a man who hated popular culture (a common trait in autism) and who sought to find a way to change everything in the simplest and easiest way possible, which was when he had a brainstorm one day. ‘Why not simply Islamify the UK?’ After this thought, it became his obsession, with him declaring himself a Muslim henceforth, with him going on to establish the first mosque in the UK, the first Muslim community centre and the first Muslim cemetery also—with all of this taking place not in the 1960s or the 1970s but in the 1880s. After Quilliam embraced Islam fully after holidaying in Morocco, he immediately adopted the name Abdullah; he was the first native Englishman to have adopted Islam.
‘When some years ago I first renounced Christianity and embraced Islam, I found that I was looked upon as a species of monomaniac, and if I endeavoured to induce people to discuss the respective merits of the two religions I was either laughed at or insulted.’
—Fanatics and Fanaticism, William (Abdullah) Quilliam, 1890.
Quilliam could have become a worshipper and a follower, yet that was far from his wish as he sought to become the leader of Islam in the UK, if not Europe as a whole; this is evidenced by his outreach to Muslim leaders abroad as well as his endless publications/propaganda including his publication of The Crescent, a weekly record of Islam in England, which had everything to do with Quilliam’s obsessiveness and monotropism and autism and nothing to do with the betterment of the British people. Islam was for him, he sought to use it and wield it and lead it, rather than be led by it or bow to it.
Muslims in England are today seeking £500,000 to restore Quilliam’s original mosque; donations are absent due to Quilliam not being a Muslim in the traditional sense as he derived a great amount of pleasure from Islamifiying the nation he so disliked in so many ways and due to him having only a small modicum of empathy as evidenced by his quote above. Quilliam demanded Islam be thrust upon Englishmen yet would have fought to the death to prevent Christianity being thrust upon Muslims. He claimed to be a free thinker and impartial and only ‘wanting the best’ for all people yet would not have permitted even a conversation in a Muslim land about the merits or lack thereof of Christianity. He only desired multiculturalism in England; he wanted Morocco and the other Muslim nations to remain Muslim as his monotropism could only tolerate the existence of a single religion and Islam became his religion of choice due to it seeming to his naïve and enraptured eyes in Morocco as being ‘classless’, which translated to ‘fair play’ and equality and simplicity in his mind.
Whether he knew it or not he was a hypocrite and a religious fascist and sought to end religious freedom eventually, as once England and the UK became Muslim, would Quilliam have listened to Hindus or Sikhs or Buddhists or Christians when they sought to espouse the merits and virtues of their belief system and social order? No, absolutely not, there would have been no discussion; his monotropism and unwavering obsessiveness would have turned the planet Muslim, and then he would have been miserable as he would have won the fight, at which point he would have returned to his odd fascination with exotic pets, I guess.
Quilliam – a man of many names: William Quilliam, Abdullah Quilliam, Henri Marcel Leon, Haroun Mustapha Leon – purchased three properties in Liverpool with the help of a donation from the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Afghanistan, with number 8 Brougham Terrace becoming the Liverpool Muslim Institute, the first mosque in the UK, which he deliberately opened officially on Christmas Day, 1889; proof positive of his intent – to hurt the majority, to disturb natives, to incite demotivation and fear and to spread self-doubt everywhere – because the opening of a Christian church in Mecca would be seen today and in 1889 as incendiary and provocative, rather than as a means to increase tolerance and love.
Quilliam’s true motivations are obvious; for him Islam was a tool because he knew every man in Britain feared Islam and did not desire for it to spread to his islands, as only men such as Quilliam claim to convert, whereas all others are born into Islam, a result of conquest, as was the case also historically with Christianity. Too few converted in the early days, which is why Christians became militant and took up arms. Christian pacifism, of course, died with Christ—see my book The Christ Conspiracy, aka the Rise of the Light Triads if you have an interest in the origins of Christianity and desire to learn more about Christianity and Jesus as a man.
Quilliam also opened a boarding school for boys and a day school for girls and Medina House, an orphanage where non-Muslim children would come to be raised as Muslims.
His monotropistic and obsessive and fanatical activism included him protesting against Hall Caine’s play, Mahomet, again clarifying that he sought for Britain to become monoculturally Islamic in every way, without dissent or differing of opinion tolerated from this struck-off lawyer who fled the UK several times after becoming embroiled in scandals—thus his frequent name changes, with him adopting a new name and persona entirely when he returned to England in 1914. He was now H. M. Leon; his mosque and his Muslim community had now vanished, with the buildings being sold by his son, with the converts to Islam all reverting to Christianity after Quilliam abandoned them. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Brookwood Cemetery near to Woking, England.
Those he compelled to become Muslims (the children) all chose to no longer be Muslims when his mosque closed after he was struck off the roll of solicitors for continual unprofessional conduct as a practicing solicitor, with only a select few autistic men of privilege remaining Muslim, notably Lord Headley, Marmaduke Pickthall, Robert Stanley, and former Methodist preacher Michael Hall, several of whom chose to be buried alongside Quilliam in the small Muslim enclave in Brookwood Cemetery.
What Quilliam wanted was not what the British people wanted; the two were polar opposites with the natives at that time desiring opportunities and evolution and advancement and a lurch towards secularism and independence, whereas Quilliam wished to become a religious king with all others submitting to him and his imported creed. This caused clashes, serious clashes, between the native majority and native majority monoculture and Quilliam’s alien doctrine and way of thinking, which would have necessitated the ‘reprogramming’ of all Britons.
The backlash came almost immediately with mobs of native folk from Liverpool throwing mud and rocks at Quilliam’s newly established mosque, with the police being needed on numerous occasions to prevent civil disturbance, violence and worse—yet in response, Quilliam doubled down by increasing the size and number of his printing presses and distributing yet more pro-Islam and anti-native leaflets and “educational pamphlets” despite knowing that if he did the same thing in Afghanistan at that same time (the nation that funded his propaganda machine) but the leaflets were pro-Christian, he would have likely been executed without a trial, just as it is today. Quilliam knew this, he knew he was not increasing tolerance but rather fuelling international intolerance and religious fascism—monotropism, no discussion, only obedience; one British leader (Quilliam), one religion (Islam), one culture (Islam).
Quilliam did not seek to achieve these things via the means of mass immigration or multiculturalism; no, he did not desire a single non-native to enter the United Kingdom. Rather, he sought to convert all Britons to Islam, after encountering it during his exotic foreign holidays taken, he said, to ‘alleviate illnesses’. His real motivations are likely somewhat different when one considers his monumental greed and self-centred persona—monkeys? Alligators? Holidays in Morocco in the nineteenth century?
However, as a result of the British people resoundingly rejecting Islam (as evidenced by the immediate physical backlash against Quilliam and his mosque), the only other way Islam could enter the UK en masse was via economic immigrants, who just so happened to be Muslim, were told they were Muslim at birth.
It is never the fault of the migrant, it is always the fault of naïve or well-meaning natives or monotropistic folk like Quilliam lost to their obsessiveness and narrow interests and self-absorption and self-love and narcissism and pseudo-intellectual supremacy who find themselves, almost against their will, campaigning against the interests and wishes of the vast majority of their own people—because they are inherently, genetically, different.
Quilliam was autistic; I know this due to studying him at length.
Autistics are typically referred to as atypicals—Quilliam was the most atypical Englishman imaginable with his eccentricities and contrarianism and ‘monomania’ in actuality evidence of him being very much on the autism spectrum, rather than a consequence of choice or want. He was a slave to his mind and his monotropism: If he had encountered Hinduism, he would have become a committed Hindu, in the same way the clearly autistic former governor of California only became a weightlifter because he saw a weightlifting magazine as a boy and only moved to America because he watched a video showcasing the USA as a child also. Oftentimes, many on the spectrum adopt the first belief system or religion or hobby or obsession they are exposed to, going ‘all in’ (as Quilliam and Schwarzenegger did) almost immediately; yet this is not a hard and fast rule, of course, but a fair guide.
Should all become weightlifters? Should all become religious reformists? No, because these obsessive monotropistic pursuits only suit the few, only suit atypicals/the neurodivergent, whereas the majority, the vast majority, desire moderation and work and a simple life and varied healthy and non-extreme interests rather than very narrow interests, which require extreme effort and commitment and detachment from society and humanity, which multiplies entitlement and thought of supremacy and narcissism and grandeur.
Islam is not for Britain in the 1890s, it was just for Quilliam; weightlifting is not for Britain or America or Austria, it was just for Schwarzenegger with both men deriving pleasure from the simplicity of their monotropistic focus on a single goal.
Sometimes when you call a man stubborn, he is not, rather he is a Quilliam or a Schwarzenegger who will continue his obsessive and compulsive and unchangeable path even if it detriments him, his health, his familial connections and his overall happiness and self-actualisation—because the Quilliam and Schwarzenegger minds are inherently different, which is why the 95% or more people with vastly different brains (determinable now using brain scans) should wholly ignore the advice and “leadership” provided by those with such singular and narrow pursuits as their minds are incompatible with the minds of the majority. Most would only lift weights for health reasons rather than doing so to create happiness or as a replacement for the majority culture. This is a foreign and alien concept to most, as is obsessing about a certain foreign religion, for instance, due to the bullying you suffered due to you being monikered with a rhyming name in tandem with your high-functioning monotropistic autism, as in the case of William Quilliam.
Quilliam was unhappy but didn’t know why so sought to change the entire system.
Schwarzenegger was unhappy but didn’t know why so sought to change himself in a metamorphosis manner, becoming something other than human, who then found it necessary to abandon his homeland also, which he has since spoken of disparagingly, which I recently covered in a chapter within one of my books, which will shock many but is understandable due to the genetic similarities between Quilliam and Schwarzenegger, the core components creating the same end products: supremacy, entitlement, narcissism, Machiavellianism and selective empathy, verging on psychopathy, what I refer to as the Light Triad—high-functioning autism (ASD) with the admixture of certain negative aspects of nurture that increase the likelihood of detachment and antisocial behaviour and visceral anger for the majority culture and the majority in general.
Many light triads have personality disorders in tandem with being on the autism spectrum; oftentimes they are ASD + ASPD (anti-social personality disorder). Yet I observe dissociative disorder being a common trait of the light triad also, especially when the individual in question is given a rhyming name or similarity unfortunate name such as a feminine-sounding name for boys or a masculine-sounding name for girls.
If Schwarzenegger had been born into an elite family in Austria and great wealth he never would have lifted a single weight. If Quilliam’s first name had been Thomas (rather than William) he never would have expressed an interest in Islam—yet would likely still have become a lawyer and owned alligators and monkeys as pets, as his Aspergian eccentricities were inborn, whereas the rhyming name, which certainly elicited bullying and mockery in his childhood, was manmade, the man being his father, the man ultimately responsible (many would argue) for the Islamification of the UK.
